What Does ‘Fully Furnished’ include?

So you just reserved a rental. Maybe you needed a place to stay for an upcoming business trip, a short vacation, or an extended stay. The rental is listed as a fully furnished home but what does that mean exactly? What can you assume will be there, and what should you bring? Having everything you need is what makes a trip stress-free and enjoyable.

Basic Furnishings

What can you expect from a fully furnished rental? That’s what we’re here to uncover! You can expect at least the basic appliances and furniture, but some vacation rentals may offer even more!

Living Room

In the living room, you should at least expect a sofa, chairs, lamps, and a coffee table. The electronics offered may vary depending on the rental and is definitely worth investigating beforehand. If you aren’t visiting a rather old or historic home, it is a safe bet that there will be a television set with cable available to you. In more modern rentals, there may even be Bluetooth stereo systems and smart televisions which will likely include streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Don’t be afraid to ask your host about what kind of entertainment systems and technology will be available in the space.

Natural and Organic Toiletries laid across a surface

Bathroom

Your bathroom will of course be furnished with things like a toilet and shower as those are built into the rental. But what about things like toilet paper, towels, and bath mats? Generally, yes, those things should be provided in a fully furnished rental as well. When it comes to shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap, it would be wise to bring your own! Some hosts will have some toiletries readily available in your rental but it doesn’t necessarily fall under the category of furnishings.

Kitchen

In a fully furnished rental, the kitchen will absolutely include a refrigerator, stove, oven, table, and sink. It should also include plates, silverware, towels, and basic appliances like a microwave oven, coffee maker, blender, and toaster. Unless it is advertised, you should not expect more advanced appliances like steamers, food processors, or things of that nature. Fully furnished rentals are not required to have snacks and drinks readily available to their guests but it is an added bonus if they do!

Bedroom

Depending on the size of your rental, you may only be guaranteed a bed, bed linens, and a side table! Be sure to find a rental with the correct size of bed you will need to make your stay comfortable. In addition to the bed and side table, your fully furnished rental will likely come with a television set, a closet with an iron and ironing board inside, and hangers.

So, What SHOULD You Bring?

We’ve got some suggestions depending on how long you plan to stay.

Short Trips

For shorter stays, you will need to bring clothes, technological devices, charging chords, and toiletries, makeup, and any special personal care items. If you aren’t planning on going out to eat, you will also need to bring groceries and snacks. It would also be wise to bring your favorite games and movies!

Extended Stays

For extended stays, bring everything you would bring for a short stay- but more of it! You should also bring laundry detergent and some basic cleaning supplies just in case your host doesn’t have it on hand. If you are staying for more than a few weeks, you should feel free to bring anything that makes you feel at home! This could mean personal photographs, comfort items like throw blankets, or even some home exercise equipment!

Other Things to Consider

If you have small children or babies traveling with you unless specific arrangements are made for family travel, cribs, changing tables, and bassinets will most likely not be at your rental. You will also most likely need to bring your own diapers, wipes, bottles, and things of that nature. Ensure ahead of time that your rental will fit any accessibility or medical accommodations you or anyone traveling with you might need.

If you are working from your rental, ensure that a strong and secure wireless internet connection is included in your rental. While most rentals will have Wi-Fi available, not all connections are reliable enough to work from.
